Loving... the Beater Blade

Beater Blade

My mixer is back! I have to take a moment to sing the praises of KitchenAid's customer service (and of Edward, because without his initiative in actually contacting KA and getting the darn thing sorted out, it would still be sitting broken and unusable on my counter). All he had to do was ring them up, tell them the serial number by which they could see that the mixer was within warranty, and a couple of days later they picked it up from our house. A week after that it was returned to my door in perfect working order. Love it!

I also love my new Beater Blade, a birthday present from my mum and a revelation in the world of mixer attachments. You know the oft-repeated recipe instruction, "Scrape down the bowl between each addition?" It's now obsolete in my kitchen. The Beater Blade's rubber edge means you don't have to stop the mixer and get our your spatula. It actually works - I am really impressed by how smooth its motion is and how it all but eliminates batter build-up on the sides of the bowl.

And this is kind of cool too: no matter which mixer you have - KA, Cuisinart, Kenwood, Viking - Beater Blade makes a product to fit it! Really, once you see the blade in action the idea seems so obvious that you go, "Why didn't I think of that?" It's definitely true that the best ideas are the simple ones.

I had to send my KA back for repair a few months ago too. The customer service was indeed speedy.

And I must try out my Beater Blade now. I bought it on special at Williams-Sonoma but haven't taken it out of the box. I keep forgetting about it until I have to actually scrape down in the middle of a recipe!

I'm so jealous! I really want one, are they better than a Kenwood?

Never heard of those - I love it though! What a great idea, and especially with a KA, where you have to lift up the whole top of the machine to get a decent scraping action going. Gotta get me one of those!

I love my beater blade too, although I do find that now rather than scraping down the bowl, I have to scrape the beater. Much preferred though. Also, I broke one on very stiff dough, so use your metal one if you are mixing a large quantity of dough.

The beater blades are awesome! I intern at City Cakes custom cake store here in NYC and we use them for all of our cake/cupcake recipes, we love them! They will break with cookie dough though so use a metal one for those.

I have to say I was the same with wedding cakes, not really fussed about them, they never tasted that good, but when I started making them at City Cakes I wish I had lived in NY when I got married!! (I'm originally from London, UK) The cakes are amazing and taste phenomenal. I'm not just saying that because I work there, come and try them if you don't believe me!
